Contiweb is proud to announce a significant partnership with the STF Imprimeries Group in France. As part of this collaboration, seven heat set web offset production lines will be upgraded with the newly launched Single Burner Operation dryer enhancement, achieving up to a 33% reduction in gas consumption during production and up to a 50% reduction in standby mode.
The upgrades will be implemented on Contiweb hot air dryers at STF Imprimeries Group’s facilities, including BLG in Toul, IPS in Pacy, IPS in Reyrieux, and France Offset Tipo Rotatives in Pusignan. These upgrades are part of a broader package and are further supported by substantial financial subsidies from French energy suppliers (CEE certificates), designed to promote environmentally conscious business practices.
Single Burner Operation enhancement
Contiweb dryers are renowned for their superior drying capabilities, efficiently handling wide web widths and speeds. However, many modern print jobs no longer require maximum drying output. Recognizing this, STF Imprimeries Group opted for Contiweb’s Single Burner Operation enhancement, which allows the deactivation of the upper burner chamber. By using hot air from the lower chamber to dry both sides of the paper, this enhancement delivers top-quality results while reducing gas consumption by up to 50% for applicable jobs. The upper burner chamber can be easily reactivated via the HMI panel on the dryer.
Driving sustainability goals
José Rodrigues, Technical Director at STF Imprimeries Group, explained the benefits:
"Our print job mix has evolved over the years, and many jobs no longer require full drying capacity. With Single Burner Operation mode, we expect to save significantly on gas consumption, lowering costs and reducing our reliance on fossil energy. This is a win-win, both financially and environmentally."
Rodrigues added that, thanks to subsidies offered by French energy suppliers, the already short payback period has been reduced to less than a year. "This initiative allows us to take a big step forward in sustainability while ensuring economic efficiency," he said.
Helping printing companies reduce costs and carbon footprint
Geert-Jan Heijl, Account Manager at Contiweb, expressed pride in the collaboration:
