Hot-air dryers for Commercial Printing

Integrated pollution control through dryers with afterburner

All Contiweb dryers rely on a high-air volume, low-temperature process that optimizes print quality and productivity by minimizing the negative effects of heating the web.

The concept of pollution control through integrated afterburner technology offers significant advantages over conventional systems. The solvents from ink are incinerated in the integrated afterburner resulting in efficient regeneration of energy and lower gas consumption. With increasing environmental awareness from various stakeholders and legislation from authorities this concept provides an excellent sustainable solution.

Ecoset/T

The Ecoset /T dryer is a hot air web offset drying system that covers the full range of commercial printing from 16 pages up to 96 pages applications. This dryer integrates the functions of drying, afterburning and chilling in one single unit.

The dryer section has an integrated afterburner, which incinerates the solvents from the ink to produce clean exhaust air. The thermal energy gained from burning the solvents is effectively being re-used in the heating process. The chill stand with the proven small diameter chill roll technology eliminates the solvent condensation phenomena that exist on conventional chill stands. By consequence, the web exit temperature after the dryer can be much higher, and no cooling section is required. The result is a significant reduction of the gas consumption, and the absence of condensation risks in the dryers last section.

The integrated chill stand offers unique advantages in the Heatset printing process. Silicone applicators are mounted before the first chill rolls, so to prevent ink picking on the chill roll surface. Special chill roll cleaning systems are no longer required. The innovative web guide integrated in the first chill roll ensures optimum web stability in the dryer and after the chill.

Advantages Ecoset/T

  • No solvent release in the pressroom.
  • Solvent condensate on rollers is eliminated.
  • Most efficient way of drying at low temperature.
  • Automatically optimized temperature.
  • Less web breaks.
  • Enhanced web control.
  • Lowest gas consumption.

Features dryer section Ecoset/T

  • Ecoset /T complies with the latest standards EN 1539, NFPA 86 and the directives of the VDI.
  • Two afterburner installations with heat exchangers and frequency-controlled fans.
  • The dryer uses two temperature zones: heating zone and drying zone.
  • The air circulation system provides a high air volume to the patented "Crossjet" air nozzle bars.
  • Web temperature control by infrared camera, located at the end of the drying zone.
  • Two compact burner installations with frequency-controlled fans.
  • Door sensors for safety.
  • Gas type different from natural gas on request.

Features chill section Ecoset/T

  • Nine small diameter chill rolls of which the fourth roll is driven by a frequency-controlled motor
  • Contiweb web guide system integrated in first chill roller
  • Full silicone and or remoistening system
  • Web tension measurement
  • Web break detector
  • VPN connection for remote diagnosis system

Ecotherm

The Ecotherm hot-air web offset dryer covers the narrow web (16 page) market, with printing presses already equipped with conventional chill stands. This dryer has an integrated afterburner, which incinerates the solvents from the ink to produce clean exhaust air. The thermal energy gained from burning the solvents is effectively being re-used in the heating process. The solvent concentration control system in the dryer reduces the total air flow through the dryer to a minimum. The result is a significant reduction of the gas consumption.

The Ecotherm dryer has an integrated cooling zone, which reduces the web outlet temperature by approximately 40°C (72°F). During production stops the dryer is kept at stand by temperature for quick restart.

Advantages Ecotherm

  • High quality and productivity.
  • Efficient way of drying at low temperature.
  • Automatically optimized temperature.
  • Enhanced web control.
  • Low gas consumption.
  • Less web breaks.

Features Ecotherm

  • The Ecotherm dryer is supplied as one complete unit.
  • It complies with the latest standards EN 1539, NFPA 86 and the directives of the VDI.
  • Three temperature zones: heating zone, drying zone and cooling zone.
  • The air circulation system provides a high air volume to the patented "Crossjet" air nozzle bars.
  • Web temperature control by infrared camera, located between drying zone and cooling zone.
  • Two afterburner installations with heat exchangers and frequency-controlled fans.
  • Door sensors for safety.
  • VPN connection for remote diagnosis system.
  • Gas type different from natural gas on request.
