Security of gas supplies
The turbulent political situation and related gas crisis, taught us that constant supply of gas in the future may be less certain than we have been used to. Without gas, you cannot print with the current dryers, so this poses a risk for printers. Our coldset enhancement option addresses this issue.
Contiweb's coldset enhancement allows you to run coldset production on a heatset press without using natural gas. Coldset is a technique typically used in newspaper printing. Some of the ink is absorbed by the paper and some is dried at room temperature in the dryer rather than forcefully dried with hot air. The quality of the product is lower than heatset printing, and there are limitations on the type of paper and ink. It does however provide a product that is accepted and sold in the market.
The enhancement includes a software update and some electrical modifications to enable Coldset mode for Ecotherm, Ecocool and Ecoset/T dryers. Installation plus production monitoring needs one or two days’ downtime.
Switching is simple
Switching between normal and coldset operation is simple, and can easily be carried out by customers without assistance from Contiweb.
The Coldset mode runs with the burners off, and is switched on and off by engaging or disengaging the user setting. Automatic blanket wash is allowed subject to explosion safety standards (the purge fan will go to washing speed after the wash request by the press).
