Contiweb successfully introduced a water & silicone substrate mixing and application system in the heatset web offset market in 2004. This system controls the oil and water content individually for each side of the paper. The function of remoistening is fully guaranteed and requires no special precautions. Based on experience with over 250 remoistening systems worldwide, Contiweb developed a new approach on how to use silicone better and more efficiently without losing any performance on the remoistening function.
Traditionally, print providers have two separate devices in each press line – one to remoisten the substrate and the other to apply the silicone. Silicone is used for protecting the printed material in case of inline finishing (resistance against mechanical stress on printed material).
Contiweb Digital Fluid Applicator (DFA)
The Contiweb DFA is a standalone remoistening applicator for digital web presses, that can optionally also apply silicone. This provides companies with greater remoistening control, ensuring that the final product regains moisture and does not distort from absorbing it from the environment.
Remoistening overcomes common quality issues such as growth of cut books, where the pages do not line up with the cover, page turn-over of short grain books, where the spine of the booklet creases, or page curling. Silicone application is used for protecting the printed material in case of inline finishing.
The principle of the DFA is mixing water and surfactant directly in the applicator trays immediately before it is applied to the printed web. This ensures uniform remoistening and reproducible results. The CFA - Digital remoistening system ‘drinks from the tap’, osmose water or DI water is not required. All functions are available in a contained unit, installation and commissioning are based upon a plug and play principle.
- Best homogeneity and uniformity
- Reproducible results
- ‘Drinks from the tap’, No osmose water and no additives required
- Remoistening function possible on all types of paper
- Cost of Operation = replacement sleeves only
